DETAILS: Walnut is hands down my favorite wood to work with. Each tree seems to be blessed with its own unique character and coloring. This live edge slab is no exception, and has just the right amount of sapwood on the outer edges, complemented by an incredibly rich and pronounced grain pattern. I used custom bowties from quilted maple to tie together the splits and large checks. The through mortise and tenons were wedged with the same maple and add a beautiful touch of traditional joinery to this bench. The curved stretcher is a glued lamination of 1/8" thick strips of walnut and is joined to the top with two angled supports and to the leg assembly an angled half-lap joint.
